Sylvia Griffith: Bio

The eldest child of parents who met in high school choir, one of Sylvia's earliest memories is that of standing on a table, reciting a poem as a pre-schooler. She learned to play guitar watching a friend in high school during the folk music revival era of the 60's. Influenced by the many singer-songwriters of that time, Sylvia became a "campfire musician," leading others in sing-alongs and playing for friends and in local coffeehouses. She began writing songs at 17, and she has continued to develop her craft as a songsmith for over four decades.

Sylvia's songs include ballads, blues, old-time country style tunes like those she heard growing up in southern Indiana, and what could be termed contemporary folk. That range of styles is displayed in "The Road Ahead," her first CD, released in October, 2005.

A psychiatric nurse and nurse educator for over 30 years (now retired), Sylvia lives in Bellevue, Nebraska. She is currently working on two new collections tentatively titled "Not Ready for the Rockin' Chair" and "Faith".
